Couple accused of pawning stolen tools from Collier County crime spree

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. — Two people were arrested for a spree of Collier County home burglaries in Dec. 2023, allegedly stealing and attempting to pawn a variety of power tools, including drills, nail guns, and chainsaws.

Several burglaries were reported to the Collier County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) by homeowners who noticed suspicious activity on their properties, with surveillance footage capturing Jonathan Ferino, 40, and Shadynne Blanco, 41. The couple allegedly targeted homes in Naples, breaking in through unlocked doors and causing damage to the properties.

CCSO was assigned to follow up on a reported burglary at a home off 22nd Avenue Southeast in Naples. The homeowner reported that someone was seen on their property in a Silver Nissan car on Friday, Dec. 22, and said that the front door had damage totaling $2,896.

Deputies were later assigned two more burglary follow-ups in nearby areas. Surveillance footage showed the same Silver Nissan in the driveway of both homes. Ferino and Blanco reportedly broke into one of them through the unlocked front door and stole two chainsaws and a small black toolbox.

Another homeowner reported that someone entered her house off Sixth Street Southeast on the same day and took a $300 chop saw and two $125 cordless drills.

Meanwhile, CCSO was investigating an armed burglary from Dec. 14, where the same Silver Nissan was seen entering the driveway of a victim's home. Several items were stolen, including a handgun.

CCSO obtained a log of Ferino's pawn history from Capital Pawn SuperStore at 1933 Davis Boulevard.

On Dec. 14, he pawned a drill, impact drill, drill driver, and a chainsaw. Five days later, he pawned an air nail gun, a large air nail gun, a table saw, and a jigsaw.

According to the owner, Blanco demanded $200 for a gas chainsaw. Because they did not have serial numbers, she did not purchase the gas chainsaw or an electric miter saw.

On Dec. 26, someone reported the burglary of a home for sale at 1544 Everglades Blvd. South to CCSO. Reports state that the home was broken into through the laundry window and contained an estimated $25,000 worth of damaged property and furniture.

Two suitcases of clothing were found, along with prescription pill bottles labeled with Ferino and Blanco's names. A brown pit bull mix was also found and handed over to Domestic Animal Services.

During the investigation, deputies discovered potentially stolen items at the Everglades Boulevard home including a weed wacker, push mower, edger, blower, pressure washer, shop vacuum, inverter generator, miter saw, gas chainsaw, and various hand tools.

Patrol located the Silver Nissan entering the driveway of a home for sale. Deputies detained the driver, Ferino, and his passenger, Blanco, and had the car towed.

Ferino told CCSO he recently moved into a house off "Everglades." According to reports, he is still looking for a place at night due to boredom. He can not afford to rent a house, so he stays at abandoned homes.

Blanco said she is actively searching for rental homes in Naples at night. After being shown a video of Ferino getting out of the Silver Nissan, Blanco said, "That's my car." She told deputies that Ferino usually stays in the car with their dog.

The suspects couldn't provide explanations for how the stolen items ended up in their car, nor could they provide a code or key to any of the Naples homes.

Blanco claimed a realtor named Cindy gave her the lockbox code; however, she could not give deputies any contact information for the alleged realtor.

Ferino mentioned that they moved to Naples a few weeks ago, and they last gave food and water to their brown pit bull mix on Dec. 22. Blanco admitted to leaving the dog in the Everglades Boulevard home on the same day.

Blanco and Ferino were ultimately arrested and booked at the Naples Jail Center. The duo faces the following charges:

  • Dealing in stolen property

  • Defrauding a pawnbroker

  • Grand theft of a dwelling

  • Two counts of Unarmed burglary of an unoccupied structure

  • Criminal mischief over $1,000
